Specialist Access Glass Replacement For A Welsh Headquarters

This prestigious headquarters in Wales required a high level glass replacement where traditional access methods alone could not complete the job. A specialist glazing solution was needed to reach the defective unit and manage the replacement safely.

Sky Access UK were tasked with planning a method that combined multiple access elements to reach and replace the defective glazing while minimising disruption to the building tenants.

The Challenge

Traditional Access Could Not Complete The Works

The defective glazing was positioned in a location where a single access method would not provide the reach, stability and control required for a safe replacement. The project therefore needed a bespoke access strategy rather than a standard glazing approach.

The works also had to be planned around an occupied headquarters building. Sky Access UK needed to combine internal and external access methods while keeping disruption to tenants as low as possible.

The Solution

Fixed Scaffold, Rope Access And Mobile Platforms

Bringing together multiple access methods, we specified a plan incorporating fixed scaffold for internal access alongside rope access and mobile platforms externally. Each access element was selected to support a specific part of the replacement methodology.

Working in conjunction, the access methods allowed the team to safely remove and replace the defective high level glass. The combined approach gave our technicians the control needed to complete the works in a challenging location.

The Results

Weekend Works With Reduced Disruption

The replacement was carried out using the planned combination of access systems, allowing the defective glass to be removed and replaced safely. The project demonstrated how a bespoke access strategy can make a difficult high level glazing replacement practical.

Works were conducted out of hours over a weekend to minimise disruption to the building tenants. This allowed the client to resolve the defective glazing while keeping the headquarters operational during normal working periods.
