Oversized Curtain Walling Glass Replacement For A Bank Headquarters
The client required the replacement of a ground floor curtain walling double glazed unit at a bank headquarters in London. The glass was found to weigh over 500KG, meaning traditional replacement methods were not suitable.
The unit measured approximately 3m x 3m, so its size and weight required specialist transportation, lifting and installation planning before the works could proceed safely.

The size and weight of the unit created a significant handling challenge. At approximately 3m x 3m and over 500KG, the replacement could not rely on manual handling or standard glazing methods.
The project also required careful logistics planning to manage delivery to site. Working with the site management company, our team needed to ensure the proposed transport method and delivery point would not exceed loading restrictions.
The Solution
Logistics Planning And Winlet Glazing Robot
Working with our logistics partner and the site management company, we produced a logistics plan detailing the proposed transport method and delivery point. This ensured the oversized unit could be brought to site safely without exceeding loading restrictions.
Given the weight of the unit, our projects team selected a Winlet glazing robot as the safest installation method. This removed the need for manual handling of the oversized glass while giving the team precise control to manoeuvre the unit in and out of position.
The Results
Out-Of-Hours Replacement With Minimal Disruption
The works were carried out out of hours over a weekend to minimise disruption to the client and building users. Using the glazing robot, the team safely removed the existing unit and installed the replacement glass in a controlled manner.
The existing unit was removed for off-site disposal, leaving the client with a completed replacement and a clear works area ready for normal use. The methodology provided a safe, practical solution for a 500KG oversized commercial glass replacement.
