At-a-Glance / Key Facts
Main Entrance Atrium Refurbishment For A West London Shopping Centre
The shopping centre client came to Sky Access UK looking for a long-term solution to address leaks to the existing main entrance atrium. The existing panels were also showing signs of age-related degradation, so the client wanted to improve both the performance and aesthetic appearance of the structure.
Given the shape and location of the overhead atrium, access to conduct the works was not straightforward. The project required a carefully planned access strategy using rope access technicians and scaffold towers.

The Challenge
Leaking Atrium With Ageing Panels
The existing main entrance atrium was suffering from leaks and visible panel degradation. The client needed a solution that would resolve the water ingress issues while improving the appearance of a prominent entrance feature.
Access was also a key constraint. The shape, height and location of the structure meant the works could not be approached as a standard ground-level glazing repair and required specialist planning before the refurbishment could proceed.

The Solution
New 6m Panels And Weather Seal Replacement
To improve the aesthetic appearance, the refurbishment package included the replacement of all existing polycarbonate panels with new panels. Some panels were 6m in length and required careful manoeuvring to position correctly within the glazing system.
Alongside the panel replacement, our team also replaced the existing weather seals to the glazing system to address the leak issues. To overcome the difficult access constraints, we used a combination of IRATA trained rope access technicians and scaffold towers.

The Results
Water Tested And Refurbished Atrium
The completed refurbishment provided the client with a renewed atrium appearance and a targeted repair to the existing leak issues. Replacing the panels and weather seals helped address both the visual degradation and the water ingress concerns.
To confirm the integrity of the works, Sky Access UK conducted a water test on completion. This provided evidence that the client’s requirements had been addressed and that the refurbished entrance atrium was ready to return to normal use.
