Front Entrance Glass Replacement For An Iconic London Hotel
The client requested our assistance to replace two shattered glazed units to the front entrance glazing of a prestigious Central London hotel. The site was located in a high footfall area, so the works needed to be planned around public safety, building access and a clean handover.
Each replacement unit weighed over 400KG, meaning a bespoke access and lifting solution was required. Sky Access UK developed a method using scaffold towers, specialist glass suction lifting equipment and a UNIC spider crane to manage the oversized units safely.

The Challenge
High Footfall Location With 400KG+ Units
The defective glazing was positioned to the front entrance of a busy Central London hotel, creating access and public safety constraints. Before works commenced, the team needed to protect the general public, hotel guests and building occupants around the shattered units.
The replacement glass also presented a significant handling challenge. With each unit weighing over 400KG, the removal and installation process required specialist lifting equipment and a carefully controlled methodology.

The Solution
PASMA Towers, Spider Crane And Vacuum Lifting
Before the glazing works commenced, we set up a ground cordon with ground marshals around the defective glazing. This helped protect the public and building occupants while maintaining a controlled works area around the front entrance façade.
Given the height of the glazing, our PASMA trained technicians erected two scaffold towers either side of the defective units to provide safe access during removal and installation. A UNIC spider crane and specialist glass suction lifting equipment were then used to control the movement of the oversized glass.

The Results
Controlled Replacement And Clean Handover
Using the specialist lifting equipment and spider crane, the existing shattered glass was safely removed for disposal and the replacement glazing was carefully installed. The method allowed the team to manage the weight of the 400KG+ units while working in a busy hotel entrance environment.
Once the replacement units were correctly installed, the team cleared away materials and removed all access equipment. The works area was handed back to the client clean, safe and ready for normal use.
