Full Replacement of Glazed Facade at Newmarket Racecourse
Delivering a complete, compliant high-level glazing overhaul using specialist vacuum lifting and rope access in just three weeks—ensuring zero disruption to the upcoming racing season.

The Challenge
Racing Against The Clock In A Live Environment
Newmarket Racecourse required a full replacement of their main grandstand’s glazed facade to meet modern compliance specifications while retaining crucial solar control performance. The primary challenge was the inflexible, three-week deadline. With the busy racing season fast approaching, the site could not afford any delays, operational downtime, or heavy footprint disruptions that traditional scaffolding would cause.

The Solution
Specialist Lifting and In-House Rope Access Expertise
To meet the tight deadline, Sky Access UK procured the exact custom-specification glass from our European supply partners and engineered a bespoke, rapid-access installation strategy.
Instead of time-consuming scaffolding, we deployed our fully in-house Level 3 IRATA rope access technicians to work in tandem with specialist Aincough cranes. Using advanced vacuum suction lifting equipment, our teams safely removed the heavy, defective panels and precisely manoeuvred the new compliant glazing into place.

The Results
On Time, On Budget and Environmentally Responsible
The entire grandstand facade was safely replaced within the strict three-week window, allowing the busy racing season to proceed without a single interruption. Furthermore, aligning with our strict ISO 14001 environmental commitments, we partnered with our waste management team to ensure that all 14 tonnes of the removed glass were fully recycled, diverting massive amounts of waste from landfill.
