Defective Curtain Wall Glass Replacement in Cambridge

The outer pane of this glazing was found to have fractured at a busy commercial office site. The client required a quick and cost-effective replacement method that would minimise disruption to building tenants.

The site remained open 24/7 and the client also required adjacent car parking to stay available. This meant the access method had to be efficient, controlled and capable of being removed immediately after the works were complete.

The Challenge

24/7 Site Access and Minimal Disruption

The commercial office site was operational 24/7, so the works had to be planned around building occupancy and tenant access. The replacement needed to be completed quickly while keeping disruption to a minimum.

Adjacent car parking also needed to remain available to the client throughout the wider operation. This ruled out a long-duration set-up and required an access method that could be mobilised, used and removed within a tightly controlled window.

The Solution

Truck Mounted Platform With Integrated Glass Lifting

To minimise disruption, the replacement operation was planned for an early weekend morning when building occupant levels were at their lowest. This allowed the team to complete the works within a quieter period for the commercial office site.

A cost-effective alternative to a crane set-up was to utilise a specialist truck mounted platform with integrated glass suction lifting equipment. This gave the team the reach and handling capability required while allowing the access equipment to be removed immediately after the replacement was complete.

The Results

Immediate Handover With Minimal Occupant Disruption

The defective curtain wall glazing was replaced during the planned early weekend window, allowing the works to be completed before building occupancy increased. The chosen method removed the need for a larger crane set-up while still giving the team safe control of the replacement unit.

All equipment was removed from site immediately after completion, allowing the car park area to be handed back to the client without delay and helping the commercial office continue operating with minimal disruption.
