At-a-Glance / Key Facts
Oversized Commercial Glazing Replacement for a Leisure Centre
We were tasked with the replacement of a large oversized commercial glazed unit in a difficult-to-reach location. The unit was positioned around the side of the building where access was restricted, meaning a bespoke access and lifting solution was required.
The replacement unit was over 4600mm in height and weighed more than 300KG. The client had been unable to find a local commercial glazing contractor capable of sourcing the glass or undertaking the works safely.

The Challenge
Oversized Glass in a Restricted Access Location
The size, weight and position of the replacement glass meant standard commercial glazing methods were not suitable. At over 4600mm high and more than 300KG, the unit required careful planning, specialist transport and controlled lifting.
The works area was located around the side of the building with restricted access. This meant the team had to develop a bespoke access methodology that would allow the glass to be safely moved, lifted and installed without compromising site safety.

The Solution
Rope Access, Contract Lift and Specialist Glass Supply
Our initial focus was to source a replacement unit that matched the existing glazing. After analysing the supplied O+M information, we obtained the original glass specification and used our supply chain to secure competitive pricing for the oversized unit.
Few UK manufacturers are capable of producing large units of this size, but we were able to procure a replacement to match. To access the works area, we utilised our in-house rope access technicians, with glass movement handled by our supply partner GGR under full contract lift conditions.
Given the oversized nature of the glass, specialist transport was required to deliver the unit safely to site. This was supplied by MLT Transport, supporting the controlled delivery and installation process.

The Results
Oversized Glazing Installed for a Happy Client
The replacement commercial glazing was safely sourced, transported and installed using a coordinated access and lifting methodology. By combining rope access capability, contract lift support and specialist transport, the team delivered a practical solution for a difficult oversized glazing replacement.
Upon completion, the site was handed back over to a happy client, providing the leisure centre with a safe and compatible replacement where local contractors had been unable to offer a complete solution.
